Fed: Labor adds to AVCC pressure for govt's uni legislation

Labor has backed a call by university vice-chancellors for the federal government torelease details of its higher education legislation.

The government announced a number of changes for the university sector in the May Budgetafter a year-long review of the industry.

But it's yet to detail the changes in legislation.

The Australian Vice-Chancellors Committee say universities are anxious to know thenew ground rules by the end of the year so they can prepare effectively.

Opposition education spokeswoman JENNY MACKLIN says Education Minister BRENDAN NELSONis dragging his feet and stifling debate on what she says are unfair changes.
