Chairman offers to quit at AGM.

DAVE Bennett offered to step aside as Banbury United chairman at the club's AGM after becoming increasingly annoyed by backbiting on internet message boards.

Bennett, who succeeded Paul Saunders in the post in July 2005, said at Wednesday's meeting: "I've spent a considerable amount of time in the last two years (working for the club), and if there are others to take on the task I'm more than happy to hand over the reins.

"I've got to be honest, there's been a considerable amount of words spoken, one or two slanderous remarks on the website (message board), so that puts me in a situation.

"I know the vast majority of fans want the best for the club …
