Vic: Australia, New Zealand seek joint carbon market
The Australian and New Zealand governments have strengthened plans to form a united
emissions trading scheme.
But both admit they have to overcome major local hurdles.
Australian Climate Change Minister PENNY WONG and her New Zealand counterpart NICK
SMITH discussed co-ordinating their plans today .. as the South Pacific's two biggest
economies.
But Ms WONG says the first step for both is to get their trading schemes in place.
The RUDD government's emissions trading scheme was voted down by the Senate earlier
this month .. it'll try again in November .. and New Zealand is reviewing its emissions-trading
laws .. and faces some very challenging weeks.
